Nursing and Healthcare Job Posting Tips from The Nursing Jobsite

How to Write an Effective Nursing Job Advertisement

Communicate effectively to our audience of nurses, midwives, HCAs and other healthcare staff with a well written job advertisement. Include a good selection of key words in the title and main body.

Your job advert needs to attract the best candidates from our audience of nurses, midwives, Healthcare Assistants, Dental Nurses and other professionals. It is crucial to provide detailed information about the ideal candidate for your role. The more information you provide in your job posting the more targeted the response will be.

The Job Title – Giving a descriptive Job Title to your advertisement is very important. The main content is irrelevant if candidates don’t click through your link to read you advert. Use as many characters in your Job Posting as possible to describe the position. Write a concise and informative title that compels a job seeker to want more information. Include as much info about the job, location, benefits, skills required or the company as possible e.g.

- Qualified Dental Nurse, large private practice, Wiltshire, c£16K basic

- Care Manager – Domiciliary Care, Bristol, £27K + relocation package

- Midwife, labour & delivery ward, excellent package

- Nurse (RMN), £23K basic, Sheffield, 30 bed unit

Company and Role – First of all you should try to include as much information about the recruiting company within the main text of your job advert. Candidates are very interested in the size, location, history, and work environment of a prospective employer. Include as many details as possible.

Skills and Qualifications – Job seekers are more likely to apply to adverts that match the skills and experiences they possess. If your vacancy requires specific skills, qualifications, or industry experience, the please clearly outline these requirements within the body of your job advertisement. Be sure to distinguish between the essential and desirable skills.

Overseas Applicants – Many Nurses and healthcare job seekers from other countries want to work in the UK. Please specify whether or not you accept foreign applicants. Not only will you limit the number of candidates that you need to respond to but you will also prevent job seekers from other countries from having false hopes of getting a job in your company.

Benefits and Salary – Include information about the benefits offered with the role. Include info on basic salary, bonuses, relocation package, health insurance, pension etc.
