Nurses & Healthcare Staff - Nursing Interview Donts

Some interview ‘don'ts’ for nurses and healthcare job seekers

  • Don’t arrive late, appeared rushed or disorganised.
  • Don’t wear excessive perfume, cologne or jewellery.
  • Don’t smoke just before the interview. You may be nervous but the smell can be very of putting!
  • Don’t chew gum.
  • Don't swear or use slang words.
  • Don’t ramble. Once you have finished answering a question stop talking.
  • Don’t answer questions with a simple yes or no. Always elaborate and use examples.
  • Don’t use jargon or abbreviations unless you are sure the interviewers know them too.
  • Avoid irritating mannerisms e.g. clicking your knuckles, clearing your throat.
  • Don't ever criticise your present or past employers.
  • Don’t answer your mobile phone in the middle of an interview.
  • If it is a two interview process, avoid enquiries about salary, holidays, benefits, etc during the first interview.
  • Don’t get too familiar or personal with your interviewer.
  • Don't accept the job on the spot. It would be very unprofessional to change your mind at a later date.
